1. 1947 – The Republic of India is a country in South Asia. This is roughly equal to 1,728,342 square miles or 2.03 million km2, the highest area of any country in the world and the largest country in the world by land area. The terrain of the country is diverse, ranging from the Karakoram and Himalaya mountain ranges that form the border with China and Nepal in the west, to the plains of the Deccan and the moist climate of the south.
